Easter Weekend Family Fun In Dublin

The Easter holidays are upon us again, which means the whole country is gearing up for an extra-long weekend. Easter is always an exciting time in Ireland, a welcome reward after a long and cold winter. There are also plenty of fun all-ages events popping up all over the country, giving you and your family the opportunity to get outside and spend some time together. Have a look at a few of the things that you and your family can do over the long weekend.

1. Fly with the fairies at the Galway Spring Festival

Easter weekend is a wonderful time to head to Lochrea for the annual Spring Festival. The Slieve Aughty Centre is always magnificent, but the entire area seems to come alive during the Spring Festival. Every year, attendees enjoy a host of family-friendly games and activities like strolls through the enchanted forest, pony rides, and spring-themed crafts. The Galway Spring Festival is open for two weeks starting March 24th, so make plans to head out for a day or few of enchanting fun!

2. Win a sweet treat at the Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt in Merrion Square

Families with young children should consider heading to Merrion Square on Friday March 30th or Saturday March 31st for the Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt–an egg-citing event full of outdoor fun, clues to crack, and of course, chocolate! Your ticket fee goes to supporting Barnardos, a charity which works to support children and families in need, so you’ll be spreading Easter cheer simply by attending! Come out dressed in your Easter activity best and ready for some family entertainment.

3. Save the day at Malahide Castle

Have you heard? The Big Bad Bunny has tried to steal all the Easter eggs from Malahide Castle! Can your young superheroes stop him? Head to Malahide Castle over Easter weekend with your kids, their capes, and a lot of energy to help stop the Bad Bunny from stealing Easter. There will be games, photo booths, superhero training, and even some chocolatey prizes for all young heroes. Book in advance to save your space–and remember to bring a rain jacket!

4. Join the Hunt at Lismore Castle

Lismore Castle, an ancient royal fortress turned modern art gallery, invites family to join in on the Easter Hunt around the grounds! Located in Waterford, this stunning castle will be home to a historical hunt full of amazing sculptures and landmarks, which your little ones will have to sleuth out with the help of a trail guide. Those who make it to the end get a chocolate treat for their hard work! Book ahead to guarantee your place, as this is something that you truly don’t want to miss.

5. Follow the Vikings at Dublinia

The vikings are coming to Wood Quay much like they came a millennium ago! Over Easter weekend, Dublinia invites you to Viking Fest, where you and your family can experience life in Viking-era Ireland. Two massive viking ships will be moored at Wood Quay and there will be hundreds of swords, shields, hats, coins, and more Viking artifacts on display for the public to see. The main event is a 45-minute theatrical production of Follow the Viking, where viewers will be treated to song, dance, drumming, and battle reenactments in the beautiful Wood Quay amphitheatre. Great for children and adults alike, Viking Fest is really a Dublin “can’t-miss” over Easter weekend!
