It's always great to see Irish adventurers succeed when they set out to do some things that most of us would balk at and as long as we've known him, Pat always sets out to do some terrifically adventurous things. In this autobiographical book, Accidental Rebel, Pat gives an overview of all those times that he succeeded and also, the one or two times that things got a little hairier. We would definitely recommend this for all of those interested in extreme adventures.

    Synopsis

In Accidental Rebel, Pat Falvey, one of Ireland’s most prolific explorers and adventurers, tells the story of his epic life. He details his successes, failures, triumphs and tragedies in an extreme pursuit that has claimed the lives of thirty of his colleagues. Pat gives an insight into the selfishness, courage, fear, focus, ruthlessness and drive that it took to succeed and survive in one of the world’s riskiest sports.

Pat traces his life from his youth in Cork’s sprawling and poor northside to working with his grandmother at the age of six to leaving school at fifteen as a mason with an ambition to become a millionaire. That dream came true in his early twenties, but the recession of the 1980s all but destroyed Pat’s business and brought him to the brink of the abyss when he tried to take his own life. Climbing saved him from this despair and he moved into the world of high adventure.

In this book, Pat brings you on the journey that took him and his teams to the most remote, dangerous and beautiful places on the planet. Intensely moving, emotional, heartbreaking, humorous, adventurous, fast-paced and reflective, the book sets out to chronicle one man’s determination to push beyond the limits to achieve his dreams – and survive.
