Come along to our FREE talk on December 4th with Pat Falvey & Pemba Gyalje.
We are delighted to announce that we will be hosting a talk with Pat Falvey and Pemba Gyalje Sherpa on Wednesday the 4th of December in Chatham Street.
August 2008 was one of one of the deadliest periods in mountaineering history; a group of 25 climbers attempted to Summit K2 only 14 returned.
Caught in the ‘Death Zone’ for three days Pemba Gyalje, a Nepalese Sherpa and five other Sherpas risked their lives to ensure the death toll wasn’t greater. Hampered by a lack of oxygen, delirium, snow blindness and exhaustion the Sherpas toiled selflessly to try to save the lives of their climbing companions.
Meanwhile back at base camp conflicting stories were emerging and being broadcast to the world.
Limerick climber Ger McDonnell was one of those who died after an heroic attempt to save three badly injured climbers who had been swept off the mountain by an icefall.
This is set to be one of our most engaging talks, so get your names down quickly as space will be tight. The book can be bought and signed by Pat Falvey and Pemba Gyalje on the night.
