Leatherman

Leatherman is a legendary name in the world of multi-tools and knives, known for delivering rugged reliability, ingenuity, and utility. Founded in 1983 by Tim Leatherman and Steve Berliner, the brand started with a vision of crafting compact tools that replace bulky toolboxes. Over the decades, Leatherman has stayed true to that mission—innovating designs that pack multiple functions into sleek, durable formats suited for outdoor adventures, emergency kits, and everyday carry. Their tools are widely respected across camping, survival, rescue, and maker communities for their quality and versatility.

A major part of what sets Leatherman apart is its lifetime warranty—if your tool ever fails due to defects in material or workmanship, Leatherman will repair it (or replace it) free of charge. This robust guarantee reflects their confidence in durability and gives users peace of mind. Whether it’s a pocket multitool, heavy-duty pliers, or specialized rescue gear like the Raptor, Leatherman ensures your tool is built to last.

Frequently Asked Questions

Defects due to materials or manufacturing are repaired or replaced. Defects due to abuse or unreasonable use are not covered and the product is returned to the customer. In practice, Leatherman's interpretation of "normal use" is broad - a firefighter's Wave submitted with loose pliers, a broken blade, a dull serrated blade, a worn file, and missing bits was accepted for repair and replaced with a remanufactured unit, which gives a reasonable indication of how the warranty is applied. Accessories and sheaths are not covered by the 25-year warranty, except for the Adapt Kit, Ratchet Driver, and Premium Leather Sheath, which carry a 2-year limited warranty. Leatherman products are designed to be disassembled by factory-trained technicians only. Repaired tools are reassembled with the pivot posts cemented to ensure proper tension for optimum tool performance. Attempting to disassemble a Leatherman tool yourself may result in lost components and compromised tool functionality, and may also void your warranty protection. For maintenance, rinse under warm water, dry thoroughly, and apply a drop of light oil to the pivot points — that is the extent of what Leatherman recommend doing at home.

Yes. All multi-tools and knives featuring MagnaCut steel blades come with a free sharpening service. Submit the sharpening service form, send the product to Leatherman, and their blade specialists will return it to factory sharp — with return shipping covered. This applies to the ARC and Wave Alpha. It is a separate service from the warranty claim process and can be used whenever the blade needs a factory restore rather than a field touch-up.

The Leatherman Warranty

Leatherman back every tool with a 25-year warranty against defects and breakages from normal use - and they have a strong reputation for actually honouring it, including on older tools. It covers the kind of use these tools are built for: prying, hammering, wire cutting, daily carry. If something goes wrong, Leatherman handle it directly.
