Meindl

Meindl

Handcrafted in Bavaria since 1683 — precision-built hiking boots for every terrain, from Irish hillwalks to alpine summits.

Meindl has been making boots in Bavaria since 1683 — still family-owned, still manufactured in Europe, and still the choice of hillwalkers, mountaineers, and outdoor professionals who need footwear that performs in real conditions. Wet ground, variable weather, and mixed terrain are built into the design philosophy, making Meindl a natural fit for Irish hiking environments.

The range covers everything from lightweight day-walking boots to high-support alpine models, with a graded construction system that matches boot stiffness precisely to the demands of the terrain and load. Whether you are heading out on the Wicklow Way or tackling a multi-day route in Kerry or Connacht, there is a Meindl boot built for the job.

Our team on George's Street, Dublin City Centre are experienced Meindl fitters — if you are unsure which model or fit suits you, come in and we will work through it properly. We stock a wide range of sizes and widths, including the Meindl Comfort Fit range for wider feet.

To get the most from your boots, pair them with quality hiking socks, maintain them with the right footwear care products, and consider supportive insoles for longer days on the trail. Waterproof gaiters are worth considering for exposed or boggy ground.

Frequently Asked Questions

Meindl boots use European sizing and different lasts across their range, so fit can vary between models. As a general guide, most people wear their normal UK size — but the Comfort Fit range tends to feel roomier in the forefoot while the standard last is more athletic. We'd always recommend trying Meindl boots on in-store with the socks you'll be hiking in. Our team in-store on George's Street can walk you through sizing across the full range.

MFS (Memory Foam System) is a technology built into the upper lining of the boot — foam panels that mould to your foot over time for a personalised fit. Comfort Fit is a last shape — a wider profile with more room in the toe box and a narrower heel. They solve different problems: MFS addresses pressure points and break-in discomfort, while Comfort Fit addresses foot width. Some models like the Meran GTX combine both. If you have wider feet, start with Comfort Fit. If your feet are standard width but you want a more customised feel, look for MFS.

Yes — all Meindl hiking, trekking and mountain boots can be resoled as long as the uppers are in good condition. This is one of the key advantages of buying quality leather boots over cheaper alternatives. A good cobbler can replace the sole unit and rubber rand, giving the boots a second life. If you're unsure whether your pair is worth resoling, bring them into our store and we'll take a look. Worth noting - resoling is not free of charge from Meindl. We are an authorised re-sole partner with Meindl, this means you can come in-store and we can facilitate sending the boots to the Bavaria factory for resoling.

Meindl nubuck and leather boots should be cleaned after each hike with a brush and warm water — never put them near direct heat. Once dry, apply a wax-based waterproofing treatment like Meindl Sportwax to restore the leather's water resistance. For suede models, use a spray-on proofer instead. Re-waxing every few months (or more often in heavy use) keeps the leather supple and extends the life of the boot. We stock the full Meindl boot care range in-store and online.

Why We Stock Meindl

Meindl has been in the Great Outdoors range for as long as we've been fitting hillwalkers. The Bhutan MFS is one of the most popular boots we've ever sold — and for good reason. Every pair is made in Europe using full-grain leather, GORE-TEX waterproofing and Vibram soles, built to last years rather than seasons. What sets Meindl apart is the graded construction system: each boot is matched to specific terrain, so you're never over- or under-booted for the walk. Alongside this, Meindl still build their leather boots in Bavaria, Germany, where they also they offer a boot re-soling and conditioning service.
