The Art O Neill Challenge route can be extremely cold and unforgiving in January. The organisers place the utmost importance on having the right gear and there is a mandatory kit list. Kit checks will be done on the night of the challenge and participants will not be allowed to start unless they have all the right kit.

Mandatory Kit

(See examples below)

Basic first aid kit (Minimum: 1 x Dressing Pad for heavy bleeding (field dressing, bandage and plasters)

Head Torch with battery power for 12 hours

Energy food and drink

High Viz Vest

Technical base layer (top and bottom merino wool recommended)

Water-proof top (preferably with Taped seams)

Mobile Phone fully charged and functional

from Checkpoint 1 onwards

The following mandatory gear items needed for the mountain section are to be packed in your drop bag. This drop bag will then be available for you at Checkpoint 1 at the start of the mountain section.

Survival bag

Foil blanket

Maps of the route

Compass & GPS(Advisable for self guided)

Whistle

Gloves

Fleece/Wool Hat

Fleeces top/mid layer (two recommended) Men’s/Women’s

Water-proof bottoms Men’s/Women’s

Rucksack
