How do I choose the right carabiner?

Think about how you'll use it rather than simply choosing the strongest model. Consider the shape, gate type, locking mechanism, size and weight. A pear-shaped locking carabiner is best for belaying, while asymmetric D-shaped carabiners are the most versatile choice for general climbing.

What are quickdraws?

Quickdraws are used to connect the climbing rope to fixed protection or anchors. They consist of two carabiners joined by a sling, one clips into the protection and the other clips the rope. The sling helps keep the carabiners correctly positioned and reduces unwanted movement.

How many quickdraws do I need for climbing?
